This gallery contains photos I took in July 2011 while on a vacation out west. Yellowstone is an absolutely wonderful place. It's like nothing I've ever seen or heard. The hissing, boiling and bubbling sounds of the thermal features are amazing. Also, that sulfur smell in the air! One thing I did not realize is just how mountainous Yellowstone is. I guess it should be no surprise. It is a volcano after all. The park is very much undeveloped and very rugged, except for a few small areas near the park hotels. We stayed at the Lake Yellowstone Hotel and it was a great place to call home base since it's more or less centrally located to all the sites...and it's right on the beautiful lake. I must go back!...I really loved visiting Yellowstone. It's truly one of a kind!...and I miss it already.
